The Leigh family’s residence, Addington Place, was originally built in the 16th century and was later rebuilt in the 18th century and renamed first into Addington Farm and then into Addington Palace, the name which it still holds today. In the 1930s, the area to the south of the village started developing into what is now known as New Addington.
