How to Pack Your Electronics for Safe Moving

Electronics make for some of the most important items that you will have to take with you when moving homes. Apart from everything else, you will find yourself packing a number of electronics, such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, televisions, stereo systems and all kind of other equipment. There is one thing common when referring to all of these items and that comes from the fact that each of them is relatively expensive and the last thing you want is to see any of them damaged during a home removal.

In order to avoid problems, you have to be considerate and pack your electronics carefully. While it is true that there are a ton of other tasks you have address, it is important to not rush in order to ensure safe transportation for your electronic devices. Here are several tips to help for this task:

-    Follow the advice given by the manufacturer - if you are not sure on how to approach the task of packing your electronics, there is one safe course of action to take - consult with the manufacturer’s manual. They know best how to pack and store electronics, and usually share those tips in the manual or post them on their website. Check both places and follow their recommendations.

-    Use the original boxes - the best way to move electronics is to keep them in the original boxes you bought them with. They feature a number of packing supplies that aim to reduce the risk for the device during transportation and guarantee that nothing gets broken or otherwise damaged in the removal van during a bumpy ride.

-    Acquire additional packing materials - bubble wrap is your best friend when it comes to easy-to-find and cheap packing material. Add a few layers of it, especially if you are not moving the electronic items in their original boxes. Make sure the moving boxes you are using are of top quality.

-    Wrap your electronics in linen - the moving van should be clean, but that is not a given guarantee. In order to prevent dust from entering your electronics, a simple linen cover will do the trick nicely. This is especially important when storing electronics for a long period of time or when the weather outside is bad.

-    Make sure the boxes are sealed - use packing tape to properly seal each and every removal box you are moving your electronic devices in. A well-sealed box means that there is no chance for it to accidentally open and drop its contents. This tip is valid regardless of what you keep inside the boxes, not just electronics.

-    Keep disassembled components together - if you need to disassemble a device, it is very easy to lose small screws and other items in all the chaos. For this reason it’s a good idea to place such small components in a sealed bag and attach it to the device they belong to. That way you know where everything is and not waste time digging for something specific when you reach your destination.

-    Disconnect all cords - it’s safer to move electronics with all cables unplugged and all cords severed during the time of the move. That way it will be easier for you to carry the electronics around and fit them in boxes. Keep the cables nearby for you will have to attach them again when your home relocation is done. Use small stickers to help you determine where each cord connects.

Taking your time to pack and prepare your electronics for moving will ensure their safe arrival in your new home. It is important to do so, else your risk damaging your items.
